Bailey the only absentee
Entries for the Women's World Open closed at noon today, with
England's world number five Tania Bailey the only major
absentee, having announced today that she is taking more time out to
recover from her troublesome knee.
The full women's draw will be announced on 15th September.
 "Unfortunately
I am not going to be playing in the World Open this year. It is a
massive blow for me as this has been one of my goals ever since it
was announced two years ago.
"It is obviously the biggest event ever held and being in England
was going to make it extra special. Due to my ongoing injury
problems this year I am not ready to play, I have played through
injuries in every tournament this year and it is not enjoyable or
good for me.
"It started last November when I tore my adductor in Qatar and then
it went again in December and then I tore my hamstring in New York
in January and then I tore it again at the Nationals, and it wasn't
fully recovered when I played Malaysia in March.
"My knee problems will have contributed to all the other injuries so
surgery was the only option in April to tidy up the cartilage. The
recovery had been going well but I went into the Malaysian Open in
July on only about 10 days of training and although I played well
there and felt good it was just too much too soon for my knee and I
now have to fully strengthen it before I play again.
"I am not putting a time on when I will return to playing as I want
to make sure my knee is ready and putting a time on it would
encourage me to rush back again. I will be continuing with the rehab
and strength programme for now.
 "The
physio is happy with my progress and this week has gone really well
and my knee is feeling good. I want to play for at least another
five years and I still have many goals I want to achieve, the
physios and doctors are confident I will be able to, as long as I do
the right things now.
"It has been a really frustrating time as I had worked so hard on my
game and I felt I was playing really well before all the problems
started. I just look forward to getting back on the tour sometime
soon."
